Pioneertown

I went to Pioneertown today. Basically it's an odd tourist attraction in the desert by Joshua Tree with a bit of historical relevance. They have filmed over 200 western TV shows/Films there back in the 1940's and 1950's. In the eighties they sold each building to willing buyers and most of the buildings are in there original condition. I had never heard of the place until yesterday and it seemed like such an anomaly that I had to go. So my boyfriend and I made the journey out today and it was ridiculously amazing.

Apparently if you go on a Saturday or Sunday they have reenactments, but we went on a Tuesday so all we saw were two old couples taking pictures. Luckily we ran into an owner of three of the buildings on Mane Street (Yeas it's MANE STREET) that told us the real story. In the early 90's the California State Government told each property owner that they had to make all of the buildings up to code, which lead to 2/3's of the buildings being torn down. It's really a shame that they didn't keep more of it in tacked but what they had was still amazing.

What a variety of great pics!! If i ever have to show people what the Mid West of the US looks like, i´ll direct ´em here...feels like being taken back to 1890...(except from the guy in the hoody, that´s way two much forward for that time).

i'm pretty inspired by HOW you acquire a lot of your clothes. I've made it a point to not purchase anything new (just used)going into this spring/summer for the sake of my wallet and because of how awesome thrift store finds tend to be. thanks for all the great inspiration.

I think ive been there before when I was young, I can't quite remmeber ha!

btw what area of california do you reside in?

on our conversation, I agree totally, I always get so bothered with these "socialites" if you could call them, that always have party pictures on their blogs on how f-ed up they are and the next skank outfit they are wearing, and I read the comments and people are like "oh I really love your style you are a real inspiration. gah!

but I look at someone like you, or betty from paris, or people who just have a classic style and hold themselves with poise and sophistication and it makes me happy to know there are some exceptional people in the world ;]
