After a much needed two days off I'm back and ready to blog. I compiled a list of the questions you all asked me, and I think I have answered most of them. Thanks for all of your participation!!!
- How did you find your style? Did you have a different style before you started blogging, if you did how was it?
I’ve always been adventurous, and believe me, I’ve had my phases, some of them are more embarrassing than others but that is what fashion is about. You’re not always going to be dressed perfectly, but making mistakes is half the fun, it’s the only real way to develop your personal style. However, my passion has always been vintage.
- what do you do for a living?
I work retail. It’s not too exiting but it pays the bills.
- When and how did your obsession with clothing begin?
There’s no, one, moment in time that stands out. Fashion has always been a substantial part of my life, and its developed into more than just a personal experience with every post that I make.
- And when did you start loving hats? how many hats do you actually own?
My love for hats did not start too long ago. I would say about two years. I was vintage shopping and an orange floppy hat caught my eye which I just had to have. Shortly after purchasing it I realized that I had a compulsion to throw that hat on with every outfit I was wearing. My outfits always looked so much better with that hat on so I have been on the hunt for hats every since! I own over thirty hats but ask me next week and the number will increase.
- who or what influences your style?
I am most influenced by the clothing it's self. The shape, pattern, and color of garments have a huge effect on my style. Every morning, I have one garment in mind when I’m getting out of bed. After that, I arrange a little of this and a little of that till it satisfies my mood for that moment. Fashion comes very organically to me it only takes me about 10 minutes to get dressed every morning. When you have such a strong sense of personal style dressing up everyday is much easier.
- How tall are you?
I am 5’7 but I am constantly wearing heels so depending the the height of my heels I range from 5’7”-5’11”.
- If someone gave you the choice to pick out a designer outfit for yourself at no cost, what would this outfit consist of?
I’m sure I would figure something out after a walk through at the CHLOE showroom. I am absolutely obsessed with Chloe. Their collections are always incredibly impressive. From the perfectly cut trousers to the most fabulous handbags I have ever laid my eyes and don't get me started on their shoes-I could go on and on but I think you all get the point!
- My question is what kind of music are you into?
My music taste is all over the place. My favorite artists are The Band, Loretta Lynne, Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan. As you can see I’m not a big fan of modern music although my guilty pleasure is country music radio, everyone hates that I listen to is, but when I’m in the car I force everyone to sit through it. I think most people like it more than they admit. That's what I tell myself anyways.
- what else are you obsessed with besides fashion?
I have been known as an avid hiker and quite the book nerd. My boyfriend and I try to get a hike in at least once a week, and I read every night before I go to sleep. The last book I read was Shanghai Girls – which was such a sad story, I swear I cried around five times throughout the novel, but I would highly recommend it the story is very powerful– and my boyfriend is quite the Harry Potter buff.
- What country/city would you most like to live in and why?
I haven’t traveled abroad nearly enough to answer that question (or ever for that matter). I’m far from an idealist, and to fantasize on the notion of residing somewhere I’ve never been would be a terrible practice of idealism. However, I love the mountains and the country, and want to visit Japan, France, England and Northern Europe.
- what are your biggest pet peeves?
This one is easy: Loud chewing, unruly children, techno music, rude neighbors and mean people.
- If you don't mind me asking, where are you from? Cos you have this very, exotic look which I think is beautiful.
I was born in Encinitas, California and moved to Park City, Utah when I was 10. I’ve been living in Orange County, California for the past 6 years. My background is Scotch Irish, which no one can ever figure out. I’ve gotten everything from Russian to Middle Eastern, Scottish Irish is the last think people guess!
- what’s your favorite place to shop?
Aside from all of the random thrift stores I visit on a regular basis; I really enjoy Swellegant in Newport Beach, CA. Although, I only go in there when I actually have some money to spend because I can’t get out of that store without spending at least one hundred dollars.
- 1) how much time to spend blogging? posting and commenting?
I probably spend around one hour a day on my blog, which includes commenting and posting. I wish I had more time to dedicate to it so that I could comment on everyone’s blog but nowadays I am so busy at work that I hardly have enough time to do outfit posts, but I do the best I can!
2) what would your advice be to new bloggers and bloggers wanting to make their blogs as successful as yours?
My best advice is to be yourself, and let the world catch up to your personal style. Don’t try to emulate the current trends, because trends are just that - trends. Its imperative to carve your own nitch with pure expression. Emulating someone else never comes off as authentic as much as anyone tries. Figure out what your personal style is and stick to it, people will always recognize the uniqueness of it and respect that. Also, the “blog o’sphere” is filled with such interesting people that it really doesn’t hurt to socialize & let them know that you like what they’re doing.
3) you are naturally very slim, do you have any healthy recipes you can share with us?
I’m been a vegan/vegetarian for 11 years – so I would advocate a meat free diet. My boyfriend plans our dinners every week, so we rarely eat outside of the home. I’ve found some tasty recipes at VEGANYUMYUM.COM
- 1 thing that has been in my head is, If I may know, by whom were your pictures taken? Did you take them yourself? Thanks so much, I'm looking forward to hear from you.
My lovely boyfriend takes all of my photographs. At the beginning of this blog I used a tripod and took the majority of my photos which worked okay. Then about two months ago I bought a spiffy SLR camera which I have absolutely no idea how to use so my boyfriend took over as my photographer. I find that whenever he takes pictures they look much more alive than if I try to take them myself.
- if you're only allowed to thrift 2 things for the next 1 year, what 2 items would you thrift over and over and over again? (i.e: tops/bottoms/accessories)
Blouses and dresses. A dress is always a smart choice when shopping because it’s so easy to throw on and you’re basically done with your entire outfit. When I’m feeling lazy I usually throw on a dress and run out the door. Blouses are another great choice because they change the look of an outfit completely. I figure I can wear the same pair of jeans or shorts over and over again as long as I change up the blouse then it’s something fresh.
- what did you go to school for?
I attended Chapman University for Business Marketing and then finished my studies at The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising studying Product Development.
- And if you were reincarnated, what would you like to be?
A pampered puppy – they have it too easy.
amazing look

What a wonderful post, Meggs. LOVE your answers. You do have an exotic look to you, when I first saw you I thought "old country" and guessed perhaps a small extinct Slavic country (as the women are notoriously beautiful) and your features just look well, exotic. Scot-Irish? Yay? That's half of me, although nobody ever guess that, lol. 'Cause it's the Mexican part that looks obvious.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree: your boyfriend takes the best photos of you. There's always an added twinkle in your eye when he's behind the camera.
