Rant

I must clear something up right quick. From yesterday's post you all probably assumed that I actually LIKE the 4th of July, understandably, but the truth is I think the 4th totally blows. Yes it's always fun to have an excuse to drink beer, get together with friends, and watch explosives but I can basically do that any day of the year (Disneyland lights off explosives every night which I can see from my apartment, so even the explosives are there). Let me list some of my pet peeves for this "patriotic time"
People dressing up in ironic or uncalled for outfits. It's not funny. Yes your friends will give you courtesy laugh so that you don't feel like an idiot but it's never funny. You look like an idiot.
The Fucking Traffic! The fourth of July is the worst day to live near the beach. It might seem idealistic to enjoy this "glorious" holiday sipping margaritas and soaking in the sun while enjoying the water at the beach but think again. Let me que you into the reality of the situation. First of all drinking on the beach is illegal. Secondly there is trash everywhere as my post after memorial day demonstrated. Thirdly the traffic, unless you head to the beach at 9:00 AM there is no way you will find a parking space without paying at least $25 or drive around for two hours. And both of these are not an option in my book.
And as far as the traffic is concerned, it takes at least triple the normal driving time to get anywhere regardless of the proximity to your home. And yes sitting in traffic sucks, but worrying about drunk drivers is even worse. I refuse to drive anywhere after 5:00 PM on the Fourth of July because the drunks are on the road and couldn't care less what happens to them. Therefore I am stuck where ever I am. Which is fine if I am at a friends house but sucks if I am at my apartment because even going out for dinner is not an option.
Obnoxious Drunks, sure I enjoy drinking as much as the next person, or depending on who you ask, more than the nest person, but being an obnoxious drunks ruins it for everyone. There is no reason to yell at random people in the streets, it won't get you laid and it's not funny. Talking about how much you drank is not impressive nor interesting... no one cares and everyone can see it was too much. And lastly throwing up in public is both disgusting and rude. Sure we've all had too much to drink but at least run to a bush or trashcan.
It feels so nice to get this off of my chest, sorry about the rant-sometimes it's necessary.
On a lighter note, I was trolling around the blogosphere yesterday and stumbled upon a link to an article in Elle Se noting the top 60 fashion bloggers around the world. After clicking through the article I realized I'm actually on the list! So damn cool.
love your shorts and the hat, amazing outfit and blog :)
ReplyDeletethese are very similar reasons why my friends and i left the city (san francisco) for the holiday. that, and the s%&*ty weather.
ReplyDeletei hope you still had a good day!
Love you haaaat! :D

wow! these photos are wonderful!!! you look great and I really like the location you chose!
ReplyDeleteLove the shorts. Congratulations on being listed! I hope that you did have a good 4th July despite the problems it incurs!
ReplyDeletelove the white and brown together
ReplyDeleteI love the shorts. It's quite refreshing reading a blog rant as well.
ReplyDeleteLMAO! " And lastly throwing up in public is both disgusting and rude." Ah, Megs, you're so right, that is soooo rude! (I'm shaking with laughter as I type this so forgive any typos, k?)
ReplyDeleteAh, congrats on Elle's mention of top bloggers, that is so rad! Proof you've got crazy mad international style, huh?
And speaking of which, today's outfit is in my top 60. You look so friggin' amazing! Love the creams and browns, the shorts, and the overflowing top. And the back drop...this landscape is gorgeous. hope you take more photos here!
Well, I stay away from crowds, as I don't care for them much, so had a great day hanging with the boyfriend and sipping on beers all day. Which, like you said, I can do any old day, BUT I got to wear my flag dress, and that makes it special.
No puking involved. Just delicous veggie dogs, dawg. xo. -Bella Q

ReplyDeleteThis is my favourite hat of yours I think. Lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your rant too...it's good to get it off your chest sometimes! x

Well it's totally different in San Francisco, since it's such a small city and I don't drive, so it doesn't affect me that way. I'm sorry it's a day you don't enjoy. I'm not even American, so it doesn't affect me at all... and the fireworks are totally pathetic here... so aww well.
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit and I love how you stand out amongst the beautiful garden of plants and flowers. You look so beautiful as usual!
You cutie! I love those shorts with the tucked blouse! I'm planning on hacking the long sleeves of my vintage blouses into short sleeves but you are making me hesitant... Thank-you for the kind words on my blog!! They mean so much coming from a stylish lady like you.
ReplyDeleteI have never been in America for the fourth of July but I was not feeling patriotic due to the horrific police brutality going on in Toronto right now. I'm sure you've heard of it on the news and how bad the looting is but I've watched some independent news videos and am freaked right out by the demonic stormtroopers looking police singling out protesters, throwing them on the ground, firing rubber bullets at women, hitting teens (kids,) dragging people off and detaining and interrogating them... Sorry for the rant. I am really upset too!!! Haha. But anyway, I know what you mean about being annoyed during a holiday.
First off: Love the shoes and socks! Secondly, I agree! Obnoxious party people=not my kind of folks.
ReplyDeleteahh! I love this.
ReplyDeletegosh, why are you so darn fabulous.

I can't stand traffic! you look gorgeous even you rant! ;)
ReplyDeleteSimilar story in my neck of the woods. Crazy drunks driving boats isn't cool either. One year a whole slew of drunk boaters drove into a beach where fireworks watchers were also getting drunk and stupid. So we either walk to a quiet little pier hidden by condos to watch fireworks, or, like this year, we just chilled out and ate some BBQ with friends.
ReplyDeleteagreed. to everything, agreed.
ReplyDeleteThis post was perfectly timed for me after this past 4th, in which I was called extremely cynical for not loving the holiday. I share the same pet peeves as you regarding the 4th of July!
ReplyDeleteWell I can't really relate to anything here... but I still understand where you're coming from! Ahh especially the leftover trash after festivities. Most irritating thing ever. But you look spectacular as always, and congrats on the feature! (:
ReplyDeleteyep... the drunks that are driving around downtown during 4th of july is always freaking annoying.
ReplyDeletePS. you look really great as always! I was inspired by you to go look at some hats (again... gave up the search a year ago) today and the bf apparently HATES hats? wtf. Anyway, I love all of your hat collection!

I lucked out on traffic in NY early this morning, I guess those obnoxious drunks were all still hungover haha
ReplyDeleteBy the way I am IN LOVE with those shorts!
this is brilliant. i've been down in newport/balboa on the 4th and memorial day weekend and it was chaotic. one year, i left in the am to grab lunch with a friend (near fashion island) and when i came back...i literally drove around for 30 minutes trying to find a spot. needless to say, we stayed there the rest of the weekend. love this rant.
ReplyDeletewell said and congratulations on making the list!
ReplyDeletelovely outfit and congrats on the top 60 bloggers..well deserved!

These photos are amazing! and your legs are incredible.
ReplyDeletegreat look, great blog
ReplyDeletehaha! I think you've perfectly summed up what we've all been feeling. I honestly lost interest in the 4th of July years ago. It was only really fun to me as a child, when I would go to a family friends house for some BBQ, badminton and croquet. Now that I'm in San Francisco, all I get is a bunch of obnoxious people screaming outside my apartment all night. Anyway, congratulations on making the top 60 list!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous outfit. love your short so much. amazing :)
ReplyDeleteHaha I love the anger. July 4th can be frustrating but well, at least you look damn good putting up with all the bs.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME OUTFIT!
ReplyDeleteThe shorts, the hat, the blouse, the boots!! EVERYTHING!

Ditto this rant for St. Patties day! Omg people dressed really wrong, getting DUI's, walking in front of cars. ugh.
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit, you look great in this all-light colored look :)
ugh, you don't have to tell me about how obnoxious drunks are. my entire neighborhood gets wasted for any excuse (the phillies win, there's a holiday, the weekend came, etc.). drives me nuts.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! I don't understand why people think holidays give them an excuse to be complete idiots.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your outfit! That Elle Se article is actually how I found your blog. Congrats!
i love the shorts! such a great find :)
ReplyDeleteand I definitely agree, the 4th is one of those holidays where if you try to do anything fun, chances are you're going to end up miserable and stuck in human and/or highway traffic.
Congrats on making that list!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the color palette of this
-Shoeless Simone
